Accuride, manufacturer of precision ball bearing slides, has announced the company has achieved full compliance with the RoHS Directive. An acronym for Restriction of Hazardous Substances, products in compliance with the RoHS Directive have restricted levels of lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium (Cr6), PBB, and PBDE.
Targeting electronics and electrical equipment, the European Union adopted the RoHS Directive in 2003. The Directive impacts the plating process in slide manufacturing.
Accuride began revising processes a few years ago in order to meet the RoHS specifications since their products are used in a wide range of industrial, electromechanical, and woodworking applications throughout the world.
The company’s zinc and white electrocoat finished products have been in compliance for some time. Recently, their black electroplate finish was successfully reformulated to meet the Directive’s requirements. The new plating process replaces hexavalent chromium with trivalent chromium.
