Grizzly now shipping to Canada
Woodworking and metalworking machinery manufacturer, Grizzly Industrial, Inc. says it now ships to Canada, with brokerage fees starting at $10 and low freight costs. Previously, Canadian customers had to make cross-border trips to purchase their machines.

“We’ve had incredible demand from Canadians over the years,” says Shiraz Balolia, president of Grizzly. “Many made special trips to our Washington and Pennsylvania showrooms to make their purchases, as previously we did not ship into Canada. This would require them to cross the border and go through the hassle of waiting in line, filling out customs paperwork, and determining any duties." Balolia says the direct shipping will save customers time, money, and potential headache. “We’ve negotiated a special deal with UPS to automatically process all customs paperwork for each Canadian shipment. Since we ship such high volumes with UPS, we can offer our customers huge discounts on brokerage services and freight costs."

Grizzly, which sells directly to the end user, offers a number of woodworking machines including table saws, jointers, bandsaws and milling machines.

Organizers moving ahead with SIBO
Owners of the Quebec-based Salon Industriel du Bois Ouvré (SIBO), Vance Communications Canada, are looking for input from show exhibitors and attendees. “We are talking to several of the larger players in the market to see how we can all work together to best meet the needs of the market, and will keep exhibitors and attendees current as the situation develops,” said Steve Reiss, vice president of Vance Communications Canada, in a recent press release.

The request comes on the heels of a recent announcement from the Canadian Woodworking Machinery Distributors Association (CWMDA) who said that it would not renew its sponsorship of SIBO or the Woodworking Machinery and Supply Expo (WMS) trade show in Toronto. Both are owned by Vance Communications Canada. In addition to sponsorship, the seven member companies of the CWMDA have also decided not to exhibit at SIBO 2010, which is scheduled to take place October 21-23 in Laval, Que.

In a press release, Reiss acknowledged the association's decision. “This is clearly a very difficult year for woodworkers and their suppliers. For some companies, the cost of displaying large machinery at a trade show has become fairly prohibitive at this time. Given this environment, we understand the CWMDA’s decision.

“We also understand that a strong provincial trade event is in the best interests of the Quebec woodworking industry — especially in these difficult times — by providing a marketplace, education and face-to-face contact,” said Reiss. “We are committed to exploring all options to work with CWMDA and other members of the industry to be active members of the woodworking community.”
