Management training program to launch January 2010

The Centre for Advanced Wood Processing (CAWP) has created a new online management training program for the Wood Manufacturing Council, a government-funded organization which works to address the human resource development needs of firms involved in the advanced manufacturing of wood products. “The Wood Manufacturing Council’s labour market studies, as well as our discussions with manufacturers across the country, indicated that an online, wood industry-specific training program to upgrade management skills would be very useful,” says its president, Richard Lipman. The program, he says, is geared toward helping entrepreneurs implement various management systems in order to be able to delegate responsibilities and focus on business growth. “The program is also for employees in management-track or supervisory-track roles within wood products businesses who need to better understand specific functions within their company in order to do their own jobs more efficiently, and for individuals from non-wood products backgrounds who are preparing to take on management roles in the wood products industry.”

The program consists of eight web-based modules including quality management and control, sales and marketing and business finance and investment. The training courses make extensive use of case studies and industry examples. For more info, visit cawp.ubc.ca
