After 18 years with Salice Canada Inc., Thomas W. Vick is retiring as the company’s General Manager and with him a prominent member of the Canadian Hardware Industry is leaving us after more than 27 years of service to the trade.
Tom was born in Hamburg, Germany in 1948 where he spent most of his young life and attended university to study economics from 1972 to 1976.
After his studies he, his wife Ruth and son Alexander moved to Nigeria. They returned to Germany in late 1983. In 1984, Vick was appointed general manager of Hafele Canada Inc., a position he held for nearly 10 years. He fondly recalls being part of a group of companies introducing the 32mm System from coast to coast across Canada in 1985.
In 1993 he moved to Salice Canada Inc. where he spent the next 18 years as general manager.
Vick considers himself fortunate to have worked for a company he describes as a technology leader in its field. His last day was Aug. 31, 2011 and while Vick is looking forward to spending more time with his wife and pursuing his hobbies of sailing, traveling and woodworking, few will be surprised to see him at some industry event in the near future.
We wish him all the best.
