Five woodworking and furniture industry professionals have been selected as judges for the AWFS 2013 Fresh Wood student woodworking competition.
The judging panel consists of:
- Janis Colella, owner at Culin & Colella high-end custom architectural woodwork and furniture.
- Paul Epp, Industrial Design Department chair at Ontario College of Art & Design.
- Darrell Peart, of Darrell Peart Furniture Maker and specialist in Greene & Greene style furniture.
- Gene Valcke, regional manager at Hanes Fabrics Co. and AWFS Board Director.
- Rob Zoehfeld, product line manager at Datesweiser custom office and corporate furniture.
Fresh Wood judges begin their work in May, with a round of preliminary judging and then come together at the AWFS Fair in Las Vegas, July 24-27, 2013 to select the winners.
Fresh Wood is a student woodworking competition open to full-time students in an accredited high school or post-secondary woodworking or related program and part-time students in an accredited post-secondary woodworking or related program who are transitioning into a career in woodworking or design within North America. The competition has six categories at both school levels: case goods, chairs, open, production/contract, reproduction and tables.
The full-scale international AWFS Fair, scheduled for Wednesday - Saturday, July 24 - 27, 2013 in Las Vegas, is a critical hub for international commerce in the woodworking industry.
