WMS organizers expect 'a very busy show'

Organizers are expecting a strong WMS 2013.

This year’s edition of the Woodworking Machinery & Supply Expo (WMS) is shaping up to be a strong show, according to Steve Reiss, vice president of Vance Communications Canada.
“The 2011 show outperformed a challenging market and since then the market has gotten stronger – and North America has established itself as one of the best markets globally.
“This leads us to expect a very busy show, which will mean a great experience for both attendees and exhibitors, Reiss says.”
WMS, which runs Oct. 24-26, will play host to Canada's largest display of woodworking machinery, supplies and services. This year’s show is returning to the International Centre in Mississauga (Toronto), close to Pearson Airport and easily accessible via major highways.
Reiss says they have strong support from major equipment suppliers – and there will be lots of opportunities to see and touch woodworking machinery, including new technology displayed at LIGNA Hanover.
“We also have strong support from key hardware suppliers – and visitors can expect to see many new products and designs, including those introduced at interzum in Cologne, Germany this past May,” says Reiss.
Five of Canada’s largest sources of decorative and functional hardware are among the first wave of companies to contract space for the 2013 Woodworking Machinery & Supply Expo. Blum, GRASS, Hettich, Richelieu and Salice will all have a significant presence at the show.
And many woodworking machinery suppliers, including Akhurst Machinery, Felder Group Canada, General International, Normand, SCM Group Canada, Taurus Craco and Venjakob have recently joined an expanding exhibitor base.
Reiss says there is a lot of interest in Canada from abroad and attendees can also expect to see suppliers from Asia, America and Europe.
The Wood Machinery Manufacturers of America (WMMA) is also once again organizing a pavilion at WMS. The pavilion, anchored by a WMMA booth, enables association members to band together and showcase their equipment, supplies and services. Current market conditions in Canada make this a banner year for U.S. woodworking machinery and suppliers to capitalize. Canada's housing market remains solid and a strong Canadian dollar makes U.S. products especially attractive to Canadian woodworking professionals.
“By popular request, we are moving the show back to the International Centre by the airport – easy to get to and lots of free parking,” says Reiss. “Our section of the International Centre is getting renovated, and we’ll also be among the first shows to take advantage of the upgrades, including a brand new 45-foot-wide concourse connecting the WMS Hardware and Machinery Halls.
WMS 2013 will offer demonstrations of woodworking equipment manufactured by internationally leading players, plus related tooling and software that can help you boost productivity and enhance your bottom line. There will also be a full array of furniture and cabinet supplies, including the aforementioned decorative and functional hardware, board products, adhesives, finishing materials and components.

As well, Reiss says WMS 2013 will offer an extensive education and seminar program with tips and strategies to enable companies to operate smarter and leaner, add value to their products, help them take advantage of online and new media opportunities, and open doors to new markets.
The Wood Tech Summit Leadership Conference will be held Wednesday, Oct. 23, the day before the opening of WMS, providing education and unique networking opportunities for Canadian woodworkers. The program, co-sponsored by the Centre for Advanced Wood Processing at the University of British Columbia, will feature presentations by representatives of a half dozen of Canada’s most innovative wood products companies.
“We’re very excited that the show is progressing so well and that there is so much enthusiasm from the community,” Reiss says.
“Canada is a leader in the woodworking industry and most WMS attendees don’t attend any other industry tradeshows. This is their special opportunity to network, be educated and to see the best products and services that the woodworking industry offers.”
