The Architectural Woodwork Manufacturers Association of Canada (AWMAC) is pleased to announce Scott McVittie, P. Eng. as its new president.
McVittie is a founding member of AWMAC’s Atlantic Chapter and has served on its executive since inception in 2001, including as chapter president. He joined AWMAC’s (national) Board of Directors in 2007 and has chaired both the Finance and the Guarantee and Inspection (GIS) Committees.
“AWMAC has created some very good initiatives, which are beneficial to our members and the design community,” McVittie says and adds that it is important for AWMAC and its chapters to develop and promote their initiatives so they become like tools, which are continually honed and sharpened by dedicated volunteers of AWMAC and when used properly will make the job a success.
“Two of the most important ones and part of our core values are the Architectural Woodwork Standards (AWS) manual and the Guarantee and Inspection Service (GIS) program. These are tools, which we offer to the design community and members to use under our guidelines. They will improve the overall quality and members of AWMAC will prove they are knowledgeable and dedicated to providing woodwork that conforms to the standards. The GIS program will provide the inspections and guarantees.”
“My role as president is to provide the right environment for our board of directors to follow our strategic plan, grow our association and develop and fine tune our programs under our new governance structure,” McVittie says.
“Leadership which includes timely and clear communication to all the stakeholders is key in this position and I look forward to the challenge.”
McVittie’s career began after graduating from Acadia University and Nova Scotia Technical College in the field of Industrial Engineering. He is vice president and general manager of Nova Wood Products Ltd. in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. As AWMAC’s President, McVittie will work with the association’s board of directors and executive to represent more than 300 manufacturing and associate members based in eight chapters across Canada.
