Skilled spray finishers are hard to find.
That fact is supported by multiple industry surveys and anecdotal evidence based on feedback from many shop owners.
On May 18, 2016 the Bluewater Wood Alliance, in cooperation with Conestoga College, did something about that and provided one day of classroom training for existing spray finishers and finishing room management in Walkerton, Ont.
The well subscribed course, presented by David Blackler, covered finishing theory and practical training on the Virtual Spray System; a spray simulator. The theory covered the different spray equipment categories and different types of material available, as well as trouble shooting and process control.
Even the most experienced sprayers enjoyed using the spray simulator, where they could pick up some pointers on application, quality, and material savings.
The training course will be repeated on June 8, at the Conestoga College facility. Limited seats are still available to members and non-members. Additionally, manufacturing companies will have the opportunity to bring training in-house for more in-depth instruction of their entire finishing staff.
