AWMAC Ontario held its annual Al Sparling Memorial Golf Tournament at Nobleton Lakes Golf Club in Nobleton, Ont. on June 21.
This was another fun event with golf, lunch and dinner and of course plenty of time to network with friends and colleagues. It all started at 8 a.m. with registration and breakfast and then the 10 a.m. shotgun start. Cocktails were served at 3:30 p.m. and dinner was at 5 p.m. There were 110 participants at the golf tournament with 121 guests coming out for the dinner.
The winning team was Peter Gallagher, Greg Funk, Sal Lombardo and Michael Lombardo.
Hardwoods’ team requested an honourable mention as their team came in second. They had the same score, but to decide on the winner the golf course uses a retrogression formula. Hardwoods team was comprised of Rob Nogas, Ken Smith, Josh Pilo and Bryan Masson.
The 50/50 Draw raised $940 in total with $470.00 going towards the AWMAC Al Sparling Bursary given out to a College woodworking program each year. This year the recipient will be Conestoga College, as they hosted the Apprenticeship Contest. The tournament itself went very well. Mother Nature cooperated and the day was perfect. All participants enjoyed the course and everyone finished on time and able to sit and enjoy a beverage before dinner. The dinner was fantastic and the evening concluded with many lucky attendees receiving prizes donated by many generous members. Bert Kleiser of Woodworking magazine did a great job as MC. He kept the program moving and everyone engaged.
Nick Anastas of Archmill House delivered a moving and heartfelt tribute speech about Kerry DePape.
As always, AWMAC Ontario could not host such successful events without their many generous sponsors!
