Werner O. Schmidt is the latest recipient of AWMAC Ontario’s Directors Award.
The award was presented at AWMAC Ontario’s Annual Awards Night and AGM at the Oakdale Golf & Country Club in North York recently.
The Directors Award is presented annually at the Ontario Chapter AGM to one member either past or present in recognition of their contribution to AWMAC.
"The award is presented only in the case where the recipient is unanimously selected by the board of director’s of that year.
As an organization primarily managed by volunteers, it is extremely important that we recognize those members who have contributed significantly to the direction and success of our chapter," AWMAC says.
Schmidt’s has been a key player in the formation of AWMAC Ontario. In 1966 he filed the documents that were to make the Architectural Millworkers of Ontario (AMO) an official association in the province.
He has been integral to spreading the original set of standards and having the standards included in Architectural Woodwork specifications through his network of architects. He also continued on through the 1970’s and 1980’s and served as chapter president in 1988 and 1989.
When Schmidt’s name was presented to the Ontario board of directors, it was a very easy and unanimous yes vote. Without Schmidt’s more than 30 years of activity starting with an unnamed group of industry professionals who wanted to promote a higher standard to the AMO, through the foundation of AWMAC and finally AWMAC Ontario, our industry would not be the same without his efforts.
“Thank you Werner.”
