Moulder Grinder Training Course at the new rendition of the new TC Academy space.
“Taurus Craco Machinery recently held its first Moulder Grinder Training Course at their new facility at 278 Orenda Road,” says Lee Simpson, vice president, head of service and TC Academy.
“We’ve held this course multiple times in the past over the last 20 years, but this is the new rendition of it in the new TC Academy space and it was very well received.”
Lee says they had seven participants in this course, albeit they usually like to cap that at six, because they aim for smaller class sizes as that allows for better training as a result of more one-on-one time with the instructor. It results in less downtime and more hands on experience.
“Taurus Craco Academy is designed to be the leading training school for operators in the woodworking industry,” says Lee “Our mission is to empower professionals with the knowledge and skills they need to excel in machinery operation and safety. With specialized courses covering everything from moulders and profile grinders to edgebanders, wide belt sanders, CNC software and energy management systems to name just a few.
“Taurus Craco Academy ensures that operators are equipped to handle the latest technologies with confidence and efficiency.
“This was a generic course, it doesn’t matter what brand participants use in their shop, so everyone benefits from this course. It provides knowledge to better you and your company. Instead of learning on the job and perhaps learning some bad habits, your employees learn at our facility from an experienced and knowledgeable master technician and instructor.”
Lee says they feel that this type of instruction will be a benefit to the industry as a whole because it is not brand focused. This is for everyone.
Participants came from central and southern Ontario as well as the Toronto area.
Lee says the courses have always been well received and they are planning an expansion of the program to include anything from edgebanding to cabinetmaking.
“And we will gear those courses both for beginners and experienced employees as well as for small and large shops,” he says.
“So there will be a lot of variety and participants can select the course that best fits their exact needs.“This would also allow students who have not worked in the industry to learn the basics. So this is a great opportunity for employers to send new employees to us to teach them the basics, baby steps.
Lee says the plan is to eventually be able to offer courses for just about any topic and machinery in the industry.
“That’s what we hope to be able to offer eventually, it will just take us a little bit of time to get there, because we want to do it right and develop strong courses.
“To that end we are also already working with trainers who not only have a machine background, but who are also experienced teachers.”

TC Academy’s purpose is to offer companies an opportunity of getting proficient employees, who can not only operate the machines properly, but who also know how to maintain their machines resulting in more efficiency and less downtime.
As an added bonus, Lee says the government is trying to help companies through available training grants “that you may qualify for. And we have the applications if companies want to explore those options.
“Hopefully by the end of the year, we will have quite the curriculum going,” he says. The goal is to run a course every week. And we have the perfect venue for it, because we have a lot of machinery under power, so students get hands-on learning rather than just time in the classroom.
