Phoro: Richelieu
Richard Lord
Pembroke Management, a Montréal-based portfolio management firm investing in Canadian growth companies since 1968, inducted Richard Lord, president and CEO and major shareholder of Richelieu, into its Hall of Fame.
The event, held in Montréal, took the form of an informal conversation between Nicolas Chevalier, managing partner of Pembroke, and Lord. Pembroke highlighted the contribution of this visionary leader from Saint-Damase-de-L’Islet, a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Management and the Order of Chartered Professional Accountants, who has held leadership positions with high-profile companies.
Lord joins a select group of outstanding entrepreneurs honoured by Pembroke, including Jay Hennick (Colliers, 2024) and Alain Bouchard (Alimentation Couche-Tard, 2023).
“Under Lord’s leadership, Richelieu Hardware’s revenue increased from $27 million to $2 billion in 2025 thanks to a growth strategy focused on innovation and customer satisfaction, supported by more than 98 acquisitions. As a result of his ambition, Richelieu is now a North American leader in the distribution of products for the construction and renovation industries,” said Nicolas Chevalier.
Lord said he was moved by this recognition: “Our teams have been working very hard for years to expand our offering and strengthen our presence across North America. This honour reflects on everyone who is part of the Richelieu team.”
Richelieu is an importer, manufacturer and distributor of specialty hardware and complementary products. The company serves more than 120,000 customers through a network of 119 centres in North America - 51 in Canada and 65 in the United States - as well as three manufacturing plants.
Richelieu employs more than 3,000 people, nearly 50 per cent of whom are shareholders in the company. The company went public in 1993 with an initial market capitalization of $40 million, which has since increased to over $2 billion.
