Formica earns USDA biobased product label.

Formica Corporation has earned the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Certified Biobased Product Label for Formica Brand Laminate and Compact products.
Formica is proud to highlight this certification, which covers all of its laminate and compact products manufactured in Canada and the United States, and which reflects the company’s ongoing commitment to promoting renewable materials.
Combining timeless design with responsible innovation, Formica laminate and compact products offer design professionals and consumers materials that are both beautiful and high-performing - now with the added assurance of certified renewable biobased content. This certification, recognized across North America, is increasingly sought after by architects, designers, and consumers in Quebec and across Canada who are ever more mindful of the environmental impact of their projects.

Biobased content
The USDA Certified Biobased Product Label displays a product's biobased content, which is the portion of a product that comes from a renewable source, such as plant, animal, marine, or forestry feedstocks. Utilizing renewable biobased materials displaces the need for non-renewable petroleum-based chemicals. Biobased products are cost-comparative, readily available, and perform as well as or better than their conventional counterparts.
Formica laminate is the original high-pressure laminate (HPL), invented by Formica Corporation in 1913. More than a century later, it remains a cornerstone of surface innovation, known for exceptional durability, versatility and design-forward appeal. Formica is proud that its flagship product now carries the unique USDA certification indicating its percentage of biobased content – 72 per cent. Formica laminate therefore holds the highest certified biobased content level among the leading manufacturers of high-pressure laminates (HPL).
“We are very proud to see our (product) recognized with the USDA Certified Biobased Product Label. This distinction reflects our ongoing commitment to responsible innovation and sustainable development. At Formica Canada, we are dedicated to providing design professionals and consumers with surfaces that are beautiful, high-performing, and environmentally responsible,” said Christelle Locat-Rainville, marketing manager - Canada and commercial sustainability leader.
