The Wood Manufacturing Council (WMC), with funding from the Government of Alberta and in partnership with SCWIST (Society for Canadian Women in Science and Technology), is looking to hear from women and gender-diverse people who have worked, currently work, or are interested in working in Alberta's wood manufacturing industry.
Entitled “Workforce Inclusion in Alberta: A Labour Market Study on Women and Gender-Diverse Perspectives” the study is looking for input and suggestions that will help shape the future of the wood manufacturing industry in that province.
The wood manufacturing industry offers incredible careers, but women still make up less than 30 per cent of the manufacturing workforce in Canada.
WMC and SCWIST want to understand what's working, what's getting in the way and what employers can do to create workplaces where everyone has the opportunity to succeed.
Whether your experience has been positive, challenging or somewhere in between, your voice matters. The more perspectives they hear, the better they can help build a stronger, more welcoming industry for the future.
“With workforce shortages continuing to challenge Alberta’s wood manufacturing sector, there has never been a more important time to understand how we can attract and retain a broader range of skilled workers,” says Audra Denny, president of the Wood Manufacturing Council.
“This study will provide industry with practical, insights to help create more inclusive, productive workplaces and strengthen the sector’s long-term workforce capacity.”

Survey facilitators welcome participation from women and gender-diverse people (including trans women, trans men, non-binary, Two-Spirit people, and anyone who identifies as gender non-conforming) of all backgrounds, including Indigenous people, women of colour, newcomers to Canada, people with disabilities, and members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.
