On Sept. 13, the family of Mike McGlynn will hold the second annual Mike McGlynn Memorial Day.
Mike McGlynn was struck down in his prime in a freak logging accident when he was just 21 years old and Mike’s friends and family have organized a day to remember him and what he enjoyed the most.
Mike came from a 4th generation logging family and grew up in the business where he worked with his father from a young age.
Mike loved the business and his family felt it would be only fitting to hold an event involving lots of wood and lots of fun stuff for people of all ages. And as an added bonus, last year’s event, which was a huge success, raised more than $20,000 for local charities and they want to raise even more money for good causes this year.
“This year we have added many more things like the excellence challenge and we have teamed up with General International and put out a challenge to 30 local secondary schools to make and donate a project from there woodworking shop,” says Dennis McGlynn, Mike’s uncle.
These items will be judged during the event and the top three winners will receive prizes for their schools. The top prize is a CNC machine worth almost $5,000.
The Mike McGlynn Memorial Day will be held starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13, at the Wingham Columbus Centre, at 99 Kerr Drive in Wingham, Ont.
There will be fun for the entire family, food, a special kids zone, a dunk tank, as well as colouring and jello-eating contests.
There will also be a Raptor Conservancy Birds of Prey Show, a chainsaw show & shine, a crosscut saw & chainsaw competition, a silent & live auction for a Darius Rucker autographed guitar, a log for charity, and an evening dance for adults featuring Stacey Zegers.
